Kelvin here!

Let’s try something different.

Instead of focusing on what you’re doing right now… just notice what you’re hearing.

Not the obvious sounds. The subtle ones. The background. The space between sounds.

Most of us don’t listen—we interpret. We label, analyse, and move on. But true listening is different. It’s receptive, not active. And that shift alone can change your nervous system state.

Inner sound awareness is about tuning into the subtle layers of sound—both external and internal. When you do this, attention naturally shifts away from constant thinking and into direct experience. This reduces mental load and allows the nervous system to settle.

Where people often get stuck is trying to “listen properly.” They turn it into a task, something to get right. Others dismiss it because it feels too simple. But simplicity is often what allows the system to reset.

To deepen this practice, consistency matters more than intensity. Short moments of genuine listening throughout the day can have a cumulative effect. When combined with HeartMath, listening becomes anchored in the body rather than the mind, creating a deeper sense of presence.

Over time, you begin to notice something subtle but powerful—silence is not empty. It’s supportive. And within that silence, the nervous system finds space to regulate itself.

Things to think about

  • Do you truly listen—or just process sound?
  • How much mental noise are you carrying at any given time?
  • What happens when you stop trying to “do” and simply receive?

Tips you can implement today

  • Spend a minute listening without labelling sounds
  • Notice background and subtle sound layers
  • Pair listening with slow breathing
  • Allow silence without filling it
